Committee formed to rename Parliament House

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani has constituted a parliamentary committee for renaming the Parliament House building ‘to a name that resonates with cultural heritage, national values and symbolizes the unity of the nation’, ARY News reported on Thursday.

A parliamentary committee has been formed by the Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani to rename the Parliament House building. The committee members include Senators Irfanul Haque Siddiqui, Taj Haider, Shibli Faraz and Manzoor Ahmed.

The Senator chairman wrote a letter to the National Assembly (NA) Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and said, “The recent golden jubilee celebrations of the Senate and the Constitution have provided us with an opportune moment to reflect on our collective achievements as a nation.”

“In light of this milestone, I have taken a decision to constitute a Parliamentary Committee tasked with the responsibility of renaming the Parliament House building to a name that resonates deeply with our cultural heritage, upholds our national values, and symbolizes the unity of our great nation.”

Sanjrani stated, “This is not unprecedented as a number of Parliament buildings around the world have names of native origins.”

He also requested the NA speaker to nominate four members from the National Assembly to complete the committee and the Senate Secretariat will take responsibility for managing the working and proceedings of the parliamentary committee.
